New Japan has seen a lot of flash in the pans, getting into bed with an upstart that hasn't proven it's staying power is just a bad idea. I think Tony Khan buying ROH was really what won NJPW over. NJPW really valued their ROH partnership and probably views their new AEW partnership as just an evolution of that.
