The old Chrome Extension that everybody used, Video Downloader Pro, still detects and downloads videos fine on VK. However, Google banned it from the Extension store and forcefully disabled it in the browser due to "security concerns" and "malware", i.e. piracy - protecting the copyright of content creators.
However, it's still usable. I don't remember exactly how I did this because it was several months ago, but I found a previous version of the extension on a website, downloaded it, and installed it to Chrome manually by dropping it into the folder so it doesn't connect to the official Google store at all and they can't directly disable it. This also means you won't get mandatory updates.
This process involved messing around with CRX files, which I wasn't familiar with, and deleting some metadata, but eventually I did it. The guy who was confused about torrents probably wouldn't have the patience for it, but I'm an autistic joshi hoarder so I didn't have a choice.
To spare you the same hassle, I've zipped my version of the app and uploaded it below. I don't know how you feel about downloading strange zip files from the internet but there's no exe inside so it should be clean on a virus scan. Drop it into the folder in the image I've attached and it should work fine. The app will appear in the extensions section of your browser just like a regular app from the store.
