I think moves like the piledriver, powerbom, DDT, brainbuster and Canadian Destroyer can be used as part of a match instead of a match ender, but it does need to be given some weight. When you hit someone with one of those moves, it should either be a near fall or put them down for an extended period, or be a big turning point where you went from getting your ass kicked to suddenly having the advantage.
You can 'Protect' big moves by making them look and feel important to the overall match, even if they don't end it. You could argue they are still 'transition spots', but we wouldn't have the issues we currently have with overuse. Then a guy can use one as a finisher with the explanation of 'He is particularly good with the move' or 'Does a certain version'. It's then believable this devastating move is a finisher in this guys hands.
