Sure he wasn't drawing domestically like New Japan in it's prime but that had been the case for many years since wrestling isn't the cultural touchstone in Japan like it used to be. Might as well pivot to taking the whole thing worldwide. On a side note: the disparity between Kenny and Ospreay's WK17 bout and their Forbidden Door match is fucking jarring, even with their immense wrestling talent Tony's booking and AEW's atrocious reffing killed it. Not only that but Tony prevented Kenny from having what could've been a legendary U.S. title run. He had good handful of New Japan opponents to go toe-to-toe with (Naito, Despy, Shingo, Ishimori, ELP) and also two highly anticipated rematches in AEW (Danielson II and Hangman III), all culminating in his match with Ospreay at All In London. Tony had the layup but decided to chuck the ball into the stands at full force.
