It's way easier to do the kind of stuff you want to see as a heel. If your character is a face then you can't really pick fights because that's a heel thing to do. So if you have a heel, maybe start a feud with one of those plucky babyfaces instead of chewing them out for not breaking character.
When I had Nikki start acting like a heel I ended up feuding with 3 or 4 people at the same time at one point when she was at her most arrogant, doing stuff with heels is just way easier.
