Their wrestling capabilities were definitely severely diminished in comparison to modern day standards but their star power was still largely intact when they joined WCW. A lot of people forget just how bad most of the main event wrestling was back then and that most fans didn't actually care. All they cared about was that it was Hogan and that was enough. Look at Austin post SummerSlam injury, he was mostly terrible, but most people, myself included, didn't care because the wrestling wasn't what made people watch.
