Prior to AEW, they were, in some regards, contentiously among the greatest tag teams, for their ability to merchandise and market themselves to a major Western audience despite never being in a major Western company.
AEW has exposed them as unable to truly get over and draw ratings with the niche audience they're supposed to be gods to. They're not top merchandise movers, people tune out when they see them, many substantive stances you could take have been glossed over by them being overshadowed by everyone and perennially hanging onto one story.
