Because his performances from Wrestlemania onwards seem like he completely lost his spark as a wrestler and he was done, he starts resorting to chop and suplex spam every match instead of anything creative.
Again, I'm not sure how much of this you can attribute to him being depressed and being checked out of life in general or winding down his wrestling career due to age or whatever.
I can say though that without knowing what happens afterwards I wouldn't think anything was off. People that say you could see it coming are exaggerating.
