>>16397079>It also doesn't help that a lot of smarks' ideas of "great ring work" is shit that would get you laughed at for watching it because it's actually fucking embarrassing and stupid. This isn't talked about nearly enough in the "story vs. ring work" discourse. People always point to Meltzer's ratings or whatever as a "great wrestling" guide, but to me there's a difference between a 5 star Gunther/Walter or Danielson match and a 5 star Young Bucks or Ricochet match. One of them looks cool as fuck and one of them looks like a joke. Even guys like Ospreay and Omega, who are obviously among the greatest workers of all time, get too deep into the smark weeds and do shit that just looks too silly and coordinated with their opponents, which is fine for the indies, but when you're on TV you need to have more oversight and get told "no". Nobody really brings up the point that even AEW's highest level wrestling is rife with spots that make normal people shake their heads and laugh.
I don't care how "good" Orange Cassidy is in a literal real-life sense. AEW positioning him on the same level that like LA Knight is in WWE is a reason why people are dropping the show. He should be in the same position as R-Truth - not a jobber, but a lower/midcard comedy face that can get one over on a heel. I really think this is the reality that people need to start to face. This turns away fans more than anything else.
