>Welcome To The World Inside Shino Suzuki's mind! #4: Let me introduce you to my family!
>I grew up in a family of seven, as the eldest of five siblings. Recently, I’ve been watching YouTube videos about big families, and I keep finding myself thinking, "Oh, that happened in our house too!" So, let me share some stories about my family.
>[My Father]
>When I was little, my dad used to read aloud to me from Masatoshi Usune’s manga Desert Punk. I don’t have any memories of picture books. He would even faithfully read out the sound effects—"Zaza—zazaza—"—with great dedication. One day, he showed us an Excel spreadsheet that mapped out our family’s future timeline. According to his plan, "Shino goes to junior college, then gets a job" was right on schedule.
>Dad, I’m sorry. The plan for "Shino gets married at 26" is officially off the table this year.
>Even though he worked hard, on his days off he would take us to PalPal amusement park or to the park, and he bought us almost everything we wanted. He made sure we could go to school. We never lacked for anything. Now that I’m an adult, I sometimes find myself wondering— Who is my father, really? That’s how deeply grateful I am to him. That said, when I got my driver’s license, he insisted on being in the passenger seat for practice at home. He was so strict about it that I asked him not to do the same with my other three younger siblings. Even my mom looked like she was about to cry.
>[My Mother]
>One thing my mom told me that left a strong impression was: "Always be considerate of others." And also, "No matter how much you dress yourself up, if you don’t have substance inside, it’s meaningless." (Okay, maybe she phrased it a little differently, but that’s the gist.)
