This is a wild card but I'm going Bob Backlund. Not for any positive or negative thing whatsoever, strictly for fucking up the timeline. Backlund gets clipped before he's supposed to beat Superstar Billy Graham for the belt. They had two other plans actively talked about at the time.
1) Bruno wins in a rematch that happened shortly before the Backlund bout. This was discussed between Billy and Bruno out of utter disbelief that Vince Sr. saw anything in Backlund as a draw.
2) Turn Superstar face and keep the belt on him. This essentially gives Vince McMahon's dad Hulkamania in 1978. Billy was already talking about selling tie dye merch, he he was the prototype for Hogan, Austin Idol, Jesse Ventura and Scott Steiner.
What's fun about this is the WWWF being a Northeastern shitter fed helped Vince Jr bridge the gap to purchase the business. Maybe it's always his either way but WWWF going mainstream across the country 5 years early changes things drastically. It's also fun to think about Billy absorbing the Rocky and Ventura role in Predator.
