If I died tomorrow, how much would you care? If the guy you're responding to died tomorrow, how much would you care? Would you hold a sombre candlelight vigil every day for a month of mourning for the two of us?
No, of course you wouldn't. You wouldn't even know, and even if you somehow did, you wouldn't spend a fraction of a second thinking about it, let alone mourning it. I don't matter to you, and you don't matter to me. We are ships, passing soundlessly in the night. There are 7 billion human beings on this planet, and if 6 billion of those were to die tomorrow, there'd still be way too damn many. You don't actually care about the lives of anyone but those who impact your life in some way. Everyone agrees that it's tragic that there are children in starving in Africa, but how many people actually do something about it? Very few. You don't actually care about the disaffected and disenfranchised and discriminated, you just say you do as a measure of what you see to be proper social decorum.
No lives matter. But hey... I'm not telling you anything you didn't already know.
