In a federation full of over-the-top gimmicks and other wrestlers that people simply couldn’t get into and sympathize with, Bret Hart was the sole and only man the audience could connect with. He wasn’t some undead mortician who wrestles on the side for some reason, he wasn’t some eight foot man in a monkey suit, he wasn’t some 600 pound Samoan LARPing as Japanese, he wasn’t some goofy metrosexual wearing frills, he was just a regular guy. A common Joe. A man trying to bring out the best out of himself in a cold and hostile world. He was the one and only “gimmick” that felt completely believable. So believable that even he himself believed in it. Bret Hart was the true spirit of professional wrestling. Additionally, he’s the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be
