They always tried to cast him in comedic roles without understanding that 90% of his delivery is playing the comedy straight and ended up type-casting him as a doddering old Rated-R Mr Magoo (yes he also played Mr. Magoo and poorly). I guess he understood that Hollywood didn't really make those types of movies as they used to and immediately went into money and miles mode.
