>Marigold, the women’s pro wrestling promotion that launched in May of last year, has finally realized its long-cherished goal of establishing a dedicated dojo. Located in Tokyo, the dojo officially opened on July 22.

>It’s been a year and two months since the company’s founding. They had hoped to build the dojo sooner, but struggled tremendously in finding a property. It’s not as simple as just having space for a ring—a pro wrestling dojo involves countless issues to resolve, like noise for the surrounding area. That made construction especially difficult. The dojo they finally completed has been beautifully renovated, with heating and cooling fully installed, and now provides a spacious, comfortable environment for focused training.

>Coinciding with the dojo opening, it was also announced that in-ring master Shuji Kondo would join as a full-time coach. His statement that “the wrestlers will be training until they’re coughing up blood” brought a chill to the air inside the dojo—but that kind of rigor is what defines a pro, and is exactly what a training space is for.
