The core reason 99% of modern wrestling sucks because no new talent wants to be an actual REAL career heel anymore, instead all of these modern "wrestlers" want to be liked by fans and think of themselves as COOL Marvel superheroes. That's the only explanation I can come up with. They want to be the bad guy.... who makes quips. There are almost ZERO good new villains. So many of these new guys don't actually seem to respect the business or take it that seriously. All of the good recent heel promos/gimmicks have been done by veterans and that's a damn shame.
