He got his ass whooped by most, some even embarrassingly but he was there. Losing to Roman would have been a honorable exit out of the MitB whatever the future plans from him are. "He flew too close to the sun", "too young and unexperienced" "got tricked" whatever the excuse.
The whole point of MitB is to get chance your b-talent or your push doesn't get in the normal rotation. Cashing it in on a title he already held once is bollocks. Theres so many better ways you can write someone out.
I'll headcanon book it: Roman has a match with someone, I don't know, Kofi, Jinder..He's looking weaker after Crown Jewel and limps his leg, but he wins but has hard time standing up, Only Zayn is at ring side. Theory bonks Zayn and cashes in but HA!, it's a rouse and bloodline comes out. Roman stops limping, Theory cant back out and they have match. Roman defeats him and gloats that he can now stop worrying about MitB. BAM! Theory is out to NXT or whatever. Roman gets points. Everyone looks considerably more stronger.
