>>13403145>I said that Okada's best work was as a heel and there is nothing subtle about it This is your problem though, you're looking at this entirely from a dogmatic point of good/evil point of view. Okada is just an arrogant prick who thinks he is the best, but can actually back his words, nothing more, nothing less. That doesn't make him evil, that doesn't make him above paying respects to his opponents or being nice to people he likes, he is what he is. He isn't a 'traditional heel' in any sort of way that we as a Western audience know about. That, imo, is subtle, because Okada's character feels like an actual human being, not some capeshit caricature of a villain.
In the same vein, Tanahashi is a face but is a cocky asshole himself. This, again, doesn't make him a traditional face who says 'eat your vitamins and all that'. He's just a human being. This is subtle. This is what separates puroresu and what I consider subtle from the WWE styled caricature superheroes vs supervillains wrestling which is not subtle and doesn't feel realistic whatsoever.
