Modern audience is more inclined to cheer a charismatic heel than a less charismatic face that isn't a complete catchphrase spewing meme partially due moral relativism in the society they live in and even then the face has less time to not over stay their welcome.
Nxt itself is a closed off environment despite the visiting main roster guys, their characters haven't had as much exposure so their roles as this or that is more acceptable, easier to digest than the third iteration of a guy budding up with the guys they had blood feuds with. At the same time they can't truly get over as the guys they were build as in a warehouse as getting over national requires them to be able to work a 20k crowd fluently and as meme worthy as possible.
This will cause rating drop for WWE in the near future, as I don't think HHH understands the power of a wrestling character being a meme. Pic related.
