In April of 1997, professional wrestler Rey Mysterio and his wife, Angie, celebrated the birth of their first child, Dominik. Rey was estatic to be a father, but he noticed something unusual immediately. The baby had blue eyes. Neither he nor Angie had anyone in their family with blue eyes, even as a baby. This was dismissed as a genetic quirk, and the entire family loved his beautiful eyes, even though they turned a light brown in the first year of his life.
But as Dominik grew, more unusual features began to stand out. Dominik was tall for his age, whereas his parents were notably short, both being less than 5'4 in height. Dominik's hair grew out light brown and he had fair white skin. After a heavy night of drinking Tequila, Rey finally confronted his wife. He accused her of sleeping with his best friend, Eddie Guerrero. But Angie angrily denied it. She was telling the truth.
But someone in the WCW locker room finally let Rey know the truth. Dominik's father was indeed white, and he was none other than Owen Hart. He and Angie had met one night at a bar in 1996 when the WWF, now known as WWE, came to San Diego and wrestlers from both companies got together. Rey had gone home early after drinking with men twice his size, and Angie, and she accompanied Owen back to his hotel. When Rey confronted Angie, she confessed the truth.
Being a strict Catholic, Rey Mysterio did not divorce his wife, Angie. But Rey swore revenge. He made some calls back to Mexico and paid $100,000 to a cartel hitman. That cartel hitman then became employed with the WWE and quietly swapped Owen's carabiner. The rest was history.
Throughout the years, Rey always had a disdain for Dominik. Eddie was always far nicer to him, and Dom truly believed that Eddie was his father. This later became the angle for the custody battle. When Dom joined the WWE, he finally learned the truth from Vince McMahon. The hatred Dom displays for Rey Mysterio portrayed on screen is actually real.
