I'm a zoomer who grew up in the 2000s with unironically a Sega Genesis and an SNES so I've had experience with horribly designed extremely difficult games and I never understood the point of Dark Soiys. I played through 1 and 2 last year and I'm playing through DS3 right now but all 3 feel like the exact same game. I can't say I haven't had any fun playing it, and there's a lot of merit to the artstyle and the general gameplay, but the whole LE HARD = LE GOOD shit is just fucking gay. It's like the AEW equivalent of video games, wherein the fans think they're LE REAL GAYMERS because they completed this HARDCORE shit but in reality it's just some slop that isn't even close to actual HARDCORE shit.
It's just got a pattern filled gameplay loop designed for high functioning autists, and once you get that down the games become a breeze. Took me a 100+ hours to clear DS1 base game only on my first playthrough and I completed DS2 + DLC + grinded for a bunch of gay weapons and armor in only 57 hours. It's garbage.
