>>13609124I wish WWE was like WCW in the late 90s. That would be amazing. Sure there were the constant nWo run-ins that screwed up main events but otherwise Nitro was far more entertaining than what WWE, AEW, TNA, et. al. are putting on television today.
And the matches were much better too because the wrestlers still cared enough to try to make it look legit. On my rewatch, I've been through Nitro from the beginning in 1995 through March 1999. I'm sure the quality dips in late 1999, but WCW doesn't get awful until 2000. And even then I bet I'll still have more fun with Nitro than I do with Raw, SmackDown, or Dynamite.
I just finished watching the Spring Break 1999 special episode of Nitro. The ring was over a pool of water and wrestlers had to cross a bridge to reach it (see pic). The main event was Ric Flair vs Rey Mysterio, the one and only time they faced each other 1 on 1. Fun match despite these two not showing any chemistry (three clear botches due to mistiming between the two), and the crowd adds a unique element since its made-up of a lot of non-fans that just wandered in, so you actually hear HUGE boos for Flair right at the start (they loved Rey) and Flair clearly loved it.
Here is the full match if you're curious. Not a great match like you'd expect from these two. But it's a short, fun watch and it's intriguing to see these two together and wonder what might have been if they worked a feud.
