Something i found weird about this match is that J.R and Vince propose that maybe Austin and Bret will want to make the other quit. At some point one of them, i think J.R, says something along the lines of: "this might end up being a submission match". Not only that, multiple times throughout the match they ponder the possibility of Austin getting Bret in the sharpshooter
The first thing seems like foreshadowing to their future submission match at WM 13, but that only came about after HBK lost his smile in early '97. Did the build up to the match center about quitting in some fashion? They really tried to drive the submission point home
