A Blade In the Dark - 9/10
Underrated Giallo from schlockmeister Lamberto Bava, son of the legendary Mario Bava. For reasons beyond me this one is either ignored or lost in a slew of negative reviews. A lot of people call it boring. But for my money it's much more interesting than a lot of so called classic Giallo's out there. The murders are fucking VICIOUS even by today's standards. The music is great and unnerving as is the general atmosphere. There's a really creepy sense of dread that permeates throughout though it isn't super colorful like his Dad's work or the works of someone like Argento. No no this is all about shadows and low lighting and it works. The setting is great. There's a nice little mystery. Hot Italian tits. Some of the funniest unintentionally hilarious dubbing ever. At times I'd even say it's a tad scary in parts if you roll with it. One of my favorite Giallo's ever for sure and it could just as easily be classified as a strait up slasher movie.
