A bracelet, a reason for a feud, can service but as it is a show about a sport, a grand prize is required, side quest prizes like IC and US title can't function as such because of the way they were presented for decades before it.
It meant that the shows main objective, the MacGuffin that supposed top dudes and main characters of that particular show are going for is locked behind one part-timers loose schedule. Like how Roman recently pulled it off, you can create a strong character if you can make his just slightly more frequent appearances than a boxing championship schedule work for you through strong side characters and stories eventually it will go stale, and while Roman was technically champ of both shows, he resided mostly as a SD champ leaving RAW with a champ sized hole in the run time.
The other alternative is that you put it one show jumping overbooked motherfucker who will feel like he doesn't feel like either show because you see him everywhere and all his booking is noncommittal 2 weeks before PLE bullshit. This is what feels like when Cody comes to RAW now if you as a fan like that show better - Cody was the main guy there for a long time and now that he's "SD's champ" he might as well be holding a NXT belt or even TNA championship for all it matters for the scene on RAW because those titles are generally contested in RAW.
