So I went to a local wrestling show in my city that one of my friends was actually performing in. I went in with my girlfriend and as the show ended the crowd fizzled down. I waited with my girlfriend for 30 minutes in the seats for my friend to come out so we could leave together, I decided to go to the back stage area and I saw my friend sitting at a table maybe 6 ft from the door. I called his name and he waved me in, so I stepped in and asked my friend what time he was ready to go and one of the promoters came up from behind and (very politely) told me I wasn’t allowed to be back there. I apologize, explained that I just came in to check up with my friend and then I left right away, no fuss.
Here’s my dilemma, apparently what I did was absolutely inappropriate. And objectively, I can understand that regular people should not be in the back curtains. 100%, I completely agree.
However, I came to find out from texts between my friend and his wrestler coworkers the reason why I was rushed out so fast, was because the promoter was scared that one of the wrestlers was going to beat the shit out of me for “ruining the illusion” or whatever. I was so distraught, I couldn’t imagine walking behind the curtains, and some roid rage, part time wendys cashier who wrestlers for $10 and a hot dog on weekends just beating the shit out of a random spectator for a misunderstanding, and the general attitude just being “oh haha that’s rob he just kicks the shit out of clueless spectators.” Maybe this is more of a r*ddit post but it’s completely turning me off from ever going to another one of these shows or associating with wrestlers/fans, especially since I was so nice to everyone there because I really wanted to get into wrestling and support my friend throughout his journey. I don’t know if my beliefs are valid, or if I’m just being a big baby. The idea that I could’ve had my teeth kicked in, just for a misunderstanding, really turns me off.
