>>17820892That mask was only worn one time. Originally Douki was supposed to have a deathmatch with Jun Kasai at TakaTaichiMania 2, but chickened out. They were desperate to find someone to fill the slot at the last minute so Despy volunteered to take his spot, and had the mask cobbled together from one half of one of his old masks and one half of Douki's old mask. Funnily enough this was the match that catapulted Despy from lower mid card jobber to upper card Jr. Minutes into the match Jun Kasai Irish whipped Despy into the barricade, and Despy fucked up the spot landing chin first on the steel barricade and shattering his jaw. They stopped the match, but Despy refused to quit, so they restarted the match. Despy worked fifteen minutes with a broken jaw taking all the planned spots and not giving up. Because he kept getting hit in the face his broken jaw broke in a couple of other places during the match. Despy was scheduled to compete in the BotSJ like a week after this match but had to withdraw. Normally that kind of shit would completely derail your career, but the booking grandpas in NJPW were so impressed that he continued the match that when he finally healed up they pushed him really hard.
The match is super sloppy, but when you understand what was going on in the ring you gain a little respect for Despy because of it.
