In 98, Austin moved up into the main event scene (bringing Mick Foley along with him, whom he handpicked to work his first program). In 99, Austin handpicked and protected the Rock from Cunter and Fagmag, bringing him under his wing and being a mentor to the Rock. This reads like Nash wants to say Haitch, but he knows that shit isn't going to fly - considering how effortlessly Rock repeatedly BTFO'd Haitch without even trying. His timeline is off, but let's just say, for the sake of argument, that everything Nash says is true. So what. Rock is one of the greatest of all time and Austin's only equal in the AE. When Austin had to go away, Vince must have been thanking Christ that Austin had the smarts to understand the company needed another top guy to keep floating. This is what separates Austin's backstage politicking from others. He protected his sport to be sure, but he also protected the company and was always thinking about the best for all the boys - not just himself. And for that reason, among many others, is why Austin is a GOAT!
