>>5792772>This has to be one of the worst build ups for a world title match in AEW historyIt's unironically a better build-up than Wrestlemania X7 Austin/Rock. The build up to this match was literally some weird angle where Debra was managing the Rock but Stone Cold got jealous or something. I don't even remember and that's actually the point I'm making: nobody remembers the story that led up to the match. People say OH MAN IT'S THE GREATEST FEUD OF ALL TIME because of the two guys involved, not the lead-up.
But it was actually a terrible fucking build for a feud and was nothing more than an excuse to get the two of them in the ring together for Wrestlemania.
AEW has done a pretty awful job of building this feud. I still don't even really understand why Hangman is so pissed off and the "I'm protecting AEW" storyline is particularly weak with Punk considering Eddie Kingston just did that story with him. But again, I think people aren't really going to care in the end and people will rate the feud off of the match. It's made for some shitty TV time in the lead up though, I'll admit that freely. Like Austin/Rock, this feels more like a thing that just has to happen because Tony clearly wants to put the belt on Punk. Everybody knows it and that fact has kind of weakened the expectations of the feud.
