>>14453429The fact is, years ago when AEW was first started WBD said they would be happy if the show got 500k weekly and they've stuck to that. The ratings could go even lower and WBD won't care because their other option is to run the same NCIS episodes 30 times in place of AEW but AEW brings in a different crowd, different sponsorships, exposure to different demos, which is a new market to promote shit to, etc.
They don't just outright come out and say they're happy with AEW to "work" pro wrestling fans. AEW can be in front of literally no one and as long as they stay at 500k or above WBD will pay for them to be on the channel and be happy about it. But that's not fun to talk about, drama is. So /pw/ thinks the sky is falling, even though a few years ago Smackdown was running empty arenas and hitting record low ratings and still ended up with a huge media deal from FOX.
Also, fans are literally sub zero IQ and can't think about complex things. So seeing simple things like attendance numbers and ratings numbers is easier to digest and understand. No one stops to think there's like 100 Nielsen boxes in America and each one is representing like 20k people, so if one Joe Schmo tunes out of AEW for that night then it gives a 20k plummet.
