I say this as someone who never had and never will watch WWE on any consistent basis. They are the best contemporary wrestling promotion. And it's not because they've gotten any better, they've gotten worse in fact, but everyone else got worse much faster.

Back in the day, you could be a complete bore but have a full career run in wrestling as long as you didn't do a bunch of stupid bullshit. Like a guy who just punched and headlocked his way though his matches was more desirable than a guy who could do all sorts of athletics but had gaps in believability. No one gave a shit if you could flip if in order to get there you had to do a bunch of kayfabe breaking cooperations.
Given the current state of every promotion's in ring product I feel like it was better back then. I'd rather sit though a Greg Valentine house show match than watch guys wait around to get dived on just for the dive to still miss and for them to bump off it regardless.
