I don't think we'll ever see another American promotion best WWE the way WCW did during the Monday Night Wars before the tide shifted. Most promotions who attempted to take Vince and co. head on (TNA, UWF) ended up losing their identity in the process or going up in smoke once they got more aggressive at attempting to best WWE instead of focusing on delivering a unique product. Even if Tony keeps AEW around for decades, it will always be the #2 American promotion in terms of popularity. But that's fine. Tony's panic signing of tons of Legends and deploying every trick in the book to try to steal WWE's thunder reeks of the same desperation during the Hogan years of TNA or WCW's dying days except somehow even more desperate. The Punk footage, the Samoa Joe vs Dustin Rhodes match, it all smells like panic to me. If he keeps this up it'll kill whatever hype they have going right now.
