AEW just so happened to come into being and he wasn't going to pass up a chance to raise his stock even more. Had he come back to WWE after ROH he'd be in good standing but after AEW now he's an actual player in WWE. And they're going to treat him like gold because it means everyone else in AEW is watching to see how he's used and that could be them. Cody is smart as fuck.
