I find the most intruiging explanation to be a synthesis of both schools of thought. I am speaking of the so called "grey rape" phenomenon. It may not have been as straight forward as Nash either agreeing to sex with upwards of 30 African American gentlemen simultaneously or being violated by them without his express consent. For example, consider the possibility that he agreed to a sexual encounter with a single partner but did not consent to 29 other individuals of the ethnic persuasion being "invited to the party" so to speak. Conversely it is entirely possible that his assailants had intended to rape him from the outset and forced themselves on Nash despite his protests but that, over the course 9 or maybe 10 hours of hot sweaty gangrape, he grew to enjoy the experience and retroactively applied his consent after the fact.
