>Gravure idol and pro wrestler Ryoko Sakimura (30) will release her 14th DVD, “Hisho no Gohobi” (“A Secretary’s Reward”), on the 25th. She left the women’s pro wrestling promotion Marigold this summer, and last month she returned to the ring as a freelancer. With another side to her as an idol and business owner, Sakimura is active on multiple fronts—but what is it that keeps driving her forward in pro wrestling?
>The latest work, released on Christmas, is a fetish-leaning title that will have leg fans overjoyed. From her 165 cm tall frame, she shows off her long, shapely legs to the fullest. “There are lots of touches that feel really deliberate—like scenes with stockings, or using body lotion. Legs are the part I’m most confident in, so I worked hard to exceed everyone’s expectations.”
>She joined Marigold last year, then left on July 31. She continued pro wrestling as a freelancer, and returned to the ring at the “Naniwa Women’s Pro Wrestling Launch Event” held on November 24. Because she’d been worried that “maybe I won’t be able to do pro wrestling anymore,” she said she felt a sense of relief. Though she’s shown a wide range of work, Sakimura states unequivocally: “Pro wrestling is the job I’ve loved the most in my life.”
>“Out of all the expressive activities I’ve been able to do, pro wrestling feels like the culmination of them. You have to be physically tough, and there are fewer restrictions, so the range of expression is huge. Some wrestlers make you laugh like it’s manzai, and others crash into you with pure physicality, right?”
>In other words, pro wrestling is the sport that demands the greatest all-around entertainment ability to captivate an audience.
>“If I can bring out my strengths even more there, I think I can grow as a person—and as an expressive performer—named Ryoko Sakimura.”
