Dexter agreed to a short term deal with Hunter to do a couple of appearances, culminating in Dexter's arrest and him saying goodbye to Indi/ending their marriage via arrest.
That said there were some snags. The original plan was for Dexter to be targeting AJ Styles on behalf of Johnny Gargano. Which would lead to Dexter's arrest and severing the relationship between Indi and Johnny when Johnny came back, once she found out that Dexter was in jail because of Gargano and to set up Johnny/AJ Styles.
But plans changed when Miz had a family emergency (one of his kids is sick and Miz has to be written out for a couple of weeks as a result). So Miz was kidnapped by Dexter and Gargano being responsible dropped in favor of Gargano coming back and turning on Austin Theory. Expect Miz back right before the CATC PPV and a storyline starting up where Miz will blame Ciampa for not protecting him, so that Ciampa turns against Miz. The plan as it stands, is for Ciampa and Theory to team against Miz/Gargano, as far as Miz being used to help get Gargano over with WWE fans.
Dexters appearance on NXT is his last appearance. He's committed to his new day job and only came back as a favor to Hunter/Indi. Both to give Hunter a ratings boost for Raw by cameoing and to give closure to Indi's storylines.
