>>11053545In regards to the scenarios involving a tie, only a handful of times in G1 history has a tiebreaker been used to finalize who advances from their block.
In 2000's 4-block G1, Yuji Nagata & Takashi Iizuka of A Block and Tenzan & Manabu Nakanishi of B Block went to tiebreaker matches to decide who advanced to the semifinal stage even though their tournament matches had definitive results.
In 2002's G1 that was structured like this year's BOSJ, Nakanishi was again caught in a tie with Osamu Nishimura for B Block's runner-up stemming from both scoring 5 points and their tournament match ending in a draw. The tiebreaker was held the same night as the semifinals, meaning the winner, Nishimura, had to wrestle twice in one night. Nishimura fell to A Block winner Yoshihiro Takayama later that night.
2009 saw Tanahashi & Togi Makabe tie in A Block with an exact total of 7 points and a 30-minute draw in the tournament, but the tie was instead determined by a coin toss that Makabe won.
