>>7572295>>7572353It's ATTITUDE, pal!
>>7572295We all hated it at the time, because Gaytch was a cunt irl, and it was mainly done because of vince stupidly giving big show a guarantee of a wm main event in his contract, so we had to have a 3 or 4 way because big show on his own 1-v-1 would have been incredibly shit, and you want austin to come and assist the rock but the wm match was too crowded already, would have really lessened the impact of austin's return and assist, so you had to postpone that to backlash, and what better way to build anticipation for backlash than for gaytch to retain and the have to have even more hunger for rock to win it at backlash...
... but you can't deny that to this day it's an absolutely iconic moment. one of the most iconic wm endings of all time. bad guy walks out victorious, 15 years of tradition thrown in the trash, spat pissed and shat on, fans aghast and in shellshock. now that's ATTITUDE. we had a very short sneak preview of such a moment 7 years prior when yokozuna beat bret. but of course that was just a plot device for hogan to win it. wm 2000 was the real deal.
Backlash became the highest drawing non-wm ppv. Usually interest falls off after wm/wk. in 2000 wwe stayed red hot for at least 2 more months. that's what you call a shot in the arm, which is what NJPW needs right now.
