The Young Bucks used Tony Khan’s connections and money to organize a hit on Jay Briscoe. They used their power as EVPs to force out Punk after he gained evidence of their crimes, which includes sexual assault (which is why Kylie Ray left) and pedophilia (they and Kenny Omega regularly molest Negative One, with Amanda Huber’s consent and often participation). They also threatened FTR’s family so they would stay quiet about their politicking. The reason why Punk isn’t dead is because of his high profile, however Briscoe was not so lucky. They forced one of the Elite’s crazed fans to drive directly into his vehicle as a suicide attack. The Briscoes were always more popular than the Bucks and this infuriated them. The Briscoes attempting to join AEW was the last straw. Incensed at Meltzer paying attention to the Briscoes over them, they had Jay killed as a warning to any teams who tried to surpass them.
