How about making King of the Ring a months long tournament starting the day after Summerslam and ending at Survivor Series? You could give the winner a title shot. Or make the feud for a midcard title. Or a wrestlemania match against some part-timer. It would help build up Survivor Series, give plenty of filler matches that still have stakes, and facilitate long-term booking.
