>>14676669Pro wrestling isn't just the in ring action though. Last I checked, films aren't rated by critics solely on the choreography in fight scenes.
This assumes that Ospreay actually is the best in the ring though. But he's not. The #1 goal of pro wrestling is to make it look believable. In a similar way to film and television, believability is needed to get the audience to suspend their disbelief that it's just for show, and to connect emotionally with the characters and the storylines as though it were really happening. This is called verisimilitude. And yes, fantasy has to follow the same rules. There is an internal logic to a fantasy world, and the characters therein still need to be believable else the audience won't connect.
Ospreay looks like a gymnast working WITH his opponent. No one fights like that. Nor does it look like his opponent is actually against him. The (smark) audience doesn't care either. They cheer for both men. They're just there to see flips. It's a tumbling routine or cooperative gymnastics, not pro wrestling.
To be clear: money is NOT the issue. Ticket sales are NOT the issue. Does the audience believe Ospreay is even a wrestler at all? No! Do they suspend their disbelief and get drawn into the action, cheering or booing for Ospreay as the story of the match leads them? No! It's just a cooperative gymnastics routine where all involved help each other. The crowd never sees an Ospreay match as anything more than that. And as a CONSEQUENCE he draws less people.
Get it now? This is elementary stuff.
>inb4 muh Irish whip is fake! It's all fake. Can they make it seem believable so that the audience suspends their disbelief? That's what matters.
