Over-emphasis on ratings, ticket sales and how much money a company makes, or "draws", is due to a deep seated insecurity that wrestling fans have about their hobby, which they feel deep down is shameful due to its fake nature, and thus they over-correct by trying to double down on wrestling's supposed remaining legitimacy as a purely money making enterprise.
Angles or storylines cannot be enjoyed for the sake of entertainment, but are only useful as a means to an end of making money. This attitude has metastasized in WWE fans insistence that their preferred company is overachieving due to the fact that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia pays them $50M per show - despite many of those shows being ass.
There is nothing wrong with discussing business aspects of the entertainment industries, but when the focus shifts solely to business, as it has done with wrestling, it is a clear sign that people are afraid of discussing the actual substance of the shows, which they secretly worry may be non-existent.
