But going hard has consequences, especially when you're lifting heavy weight for low reps to build strength. No way Punk is spending all that time in the gym doing 20-rep sets on machines to get a pump, he was doing legit compounds (Bench, Military, Pullups, Deadlift, etc). Sucks but probably just an overuse injury.
