The original plan for SD involved Punk getting into a verbal argument with McIntyre backstage, at which point Drew would beat him down. Punk nixed the argument, saying that Drew “shouldn’t be able to keep up with me on the mic”.

Punk pitched an idea where he would get into the ring and start talking, only to be interrupted by Gallows and Anderson, who Punk would fight off and hit a GTS on. This was vetoed by the WWE over concerns for Punk’s injury. Punk was “pretty pissed off” and claimed it would pop the crowd, although there were major concerns internally that this was just an excuse for Punk to “get some revenge” on talent that are friends with the Young Bucks in real life.
