>>12610933>>12611051It's really more about The American Nightmare being tailor made for big arena appeal and the audience of AEW being part bingo hall flipper marks, nipponflip smarks, jaded ex-wwe fans that had grown tired of how Vince and Pritchard ran everything to the ground and part smelly HC wrestling fans. 2 and half out of 4 didn't want the big arena man with his grand babby face presentation, they just wanted workrate and see Moxley bleed.
Cody's vision and goal was to grow AEW to compete with WWE by being a better WWE, audience wanted to compete with WWE by being more gritty and 90's than WWE current year then and current year now.
Truth is Cody didn't move the needle in AEW in the latter stages of the run and his attempt to attract the WWE all ages audience was misguided. For the main part of AEW audience Cody dropping the pompous goodie-two-shoes character for a heel turn was the better alternative to him trying to be more WWE than WWE in his own bubble universe for the good of the over all AEW presentation.
For people to understand this concept I point at the infamous gender reveal segment Cody had, not much fucks was given by an audience who showed up to see people flip and bleed, if Cody came out next week to announce in ring he's having another baby people in the WWE audience would stand and applause his kveen breeding abilities.
