Me and some friends went to the Dynamite show at the Nutter Center in Dayton, OH. Only a couple of hours away from his hometown. They were advertising locally around the arena if you brought some school supplies for a charity, you could meet Pillman and take a photo.
I figured he was in some special part of the arena for it, but no. He was chilling in the commons area by some table with some AEW rep with him. No one even acknowledged him.
I'm waiting in line to buy a drink and watch him for a bit and see if anyone says anything. 10 minutes in line and nothing. As I head back to my seat I notice they take the charity sign down and just sit there. A few people come up and he talks with them. Guessing they gave up on the charity drive. I went up to him and said "I'll always be a fan of yours, man. I'll be rooting for you on Rampage". And he said, "You don't know how much I appreciate people saying that".
Rampage taping starts and he has a match against Swere. The crowd popped when the ring announcer said where he was billed from, but after that, nobody cared. The match was quiet despite both Pillman and Swerve trying to get people into the match.
It's sad to watch. He's genuinely gifted if he was just given some time to develop. I think a good push in NXT could change his career.
