But he would never get that chance because there would be 5+ guys in any other era that would have far more charisma and promo skills and thus would have gotten the run instead. Roman would be a midcarder in the AE and earlier, especially in the mid 80s when WWF had top stars from around the nation, all better than Roman in every single way (looks, workrate, promos, charisma).
Also worth noting, Roman would never be capable of handling the champion's schedule in earlier eras. So he wouldn't be trusted with the world title regardless. He would likely be laughed out of the locker room given his fear of getting sick. Can you imagine Vince given Roman special treatment when he's got a roster with names like Hulk Hogan, Jake Roberts, Andre, Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, etc.?
Hogan is just working the marks because he's back in the good graces of WWE and wants to keep it that way. He doesn't actually believe this.
