Undertaker was a great locker room leader for the WWF in the mid-90s at a time when the backstage scene of the WWF were dominated by The Kliq (composed of Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, X-Pac and Triple H) and the Bret side (composed of Bret, Owen, Bulldog, Neidhart, Pillman), and so Undertaker and his own backstage clique Bone Street Krew (B.S.K.) were needed to keep both The Kliq and the Bret side (aka Bret’s Stampede Wrestling buddies) in check.
Among the BSK were Undertaker, Yokozuna, Crush, Paul Bearer, Mr. Fuji, Henry Godwinn, Phineas Godwinn (later repackaged as Mideon), Savio Vega, Charles Wright (best known as Papa Shango, Kama Mustafa and The Godfather), Solofa Fatu Jr. (best known as Rikishi), Bradshaw, Ron Simmons, Brian Lee (best known as the Fake Undertaker and Chainz from the DOA faction), and maybe Hardcore Bob Holly as well (since I think he had a longer WWE tenure and so he’d fit right in with the BSK).
Undertaker and his BSK guys were team-oriented, came together based on similar ideals and attitudes rather than having an ego about things whether it’s trying to take over the business like HBK and his Kliq buddies or Bret and his old buddies from Stampede.
Nobody really wanted to associate themselves with HBK and his pals from The Kliq (except for Sid, Justin Credible, Louie Spicolli, Chyna, Billy Gunn, Road Dogg) nor Bret Hart and his pals from Stampede (except for Tatanka, Jacques Rougeau, Dino Bravo, Rick Martel, maybe Carl Ouellet).
We already know of The Kliq and their backstage antics, as well as Bret and his pals thinking wrestling is real to them. So why is Undertaker being cast in a negative light just now?
