Vegeta on the controversial off script moment before the Cell Games with Goku
>Look...it was a different time. We were chasing the highs of the Namek PPV and this looked like our best shot. Goku had been out injured for most of the build, and it really felt like it was my time to shine. I grabbed that brass ring but when Goku got cleared Toriyama decided he needed to build the Cell PPV in to a Cellamania style thing with a battle royale, and shining a light on the younger guys. You know that was Hercule's breakout moment? Same with Gohan. It made a lot of guys careers. So put yourself in my shoes - best shape of my career, face of the company injured, it was time to step up. I had a dominant showing against Cell and right up until the last moment that was going to be the end of it. Suddenly, Goku is cleared. Where does that leave me? I'll tell you where. It leaves me squashed at the PPV before Cellamania, and I got word I was going to be thrown in to the Cell Jnr Battle Royale and have a minor spot in the finish. I was pissed, and I made my anger known. So we get to filming the promos before Cellamania and Goku, clearly under the direction of Toriyama, gives me a receipt for all the stuff in the background - "I'm not really implying I'm stronger than you, I am stronger than you", all that really did was get me riled up. It wasn't for the benefit of the fans or the boys in the back, got a great relationship with the boys, but it was to put me in my place. I still had 3 years on my contract. Spoke to Goku about it, he said it was nothing personal and came from Toriyama. We mended a lot of fences over the summer when Goku took his break. It was a different time, I was in a different headspace, and the boys never held it against me.
