One really important silver lining about the EVIL thing that nobody really talks about is Shingo
Shingo could've very easily been the one pushed into EVIL's spot, he could've been saddled with Dick Togo and had his talent wasted in matches constantly plagued by interference.
But instead of that, since the office thought Shingo wasn't really known enough to be main event NJPW material, they went with EVIL instead because he was always a merch mover, etc. And this saved Shingo completely.
Beyond that, EVIL's reign being such a disaster also made the office take chances and one of those chances was giving Shingo a title reign. And now he's back challenging Okada again. So Shingo was really the big winner of the EVIL situation in my mind.
